milepost 79 east on Hwy 20 towards Burns from Bend
We will be there Friday afternoon.
The runs will start about 9:00 am Saturday
If you aren't camping, try to be there by 9:00 am
Everyone is invited: Stock rigs welcome and modified too!
Let us know if you are coming out though.
Glass Buttes are on the south side of Hwy 20 E on the way to Burns.
The gravel pit we camp at is at the base of a large hill on the north side of Hwy 20. Ribbons will be placed so keep your eyes open the turn off is just past the Buttes and on the opposite side of the road.
Bring firewood and be ready. Bring warm camping gear and your family. We will explore the old mining areas, obsidian flows, and maybe some state property north of the buttes. This is a Saturday run and maybe Sunday a quick run before we go home.
quote: Glass Butte offers rockhounds a wide variety of gem quality obsidian. Rainbow, black, pumpkin, mahogany, midnight lace, gold sheen, silver sheen, fire, and double flow varieties can all be found in the area. While many rockhounds choose to dig for preferred material, plenty of obsidian is readily available for collection on the ground surface.
